The Tales

We Used To Tell

The Tales We Used To Tell is a naive rewriting of my childhood memories.

I insert colorful elements to archive family pictures,

creating a new setting for my childhood games.

Through these collages, my memories become tales with endless possibilities.

By incorporating new patterns in my pictures, I illustrate the stories

I was told, whether made up stories or straight up lies.

In this work I use playful imagery to articulate the naive, young mind. Different generations of my family stand alongside one another

and communicate through recurrent elements such as birds or flowers.

Here, unlike most of my work - in which I focus on Armenian identity

and traditional visuals, I keep information regarding my background

to a minimum, and blend various visuals; kawaii imagery for instance,

which automatically couples with childhood related themes.
